steal this look: alannah myles.

so, the 90s were about great film fashion. that's a given. there is, however, another element that made the 90s so fabulous: the music video. some of the hottest, sexiest, super-stylish ladies came out the mtv era. we challenge you to try this chick's sensational signature style.

one of the original biker babes of arena rock, with her alabaster skin and red pout/sneer, alannah myles was a video vixen in every sense of the word, blessed with devastating sex appeal that could make tongues wag and girlfriends jealous. black fitted chaps over skintight denim. billowy, over-sized white oxford shirts, capped-off with that luscious mane of carob curls. catching 'black velvet' on tv recently provided me with an opportunity that i could not afford to pass up -- an opportunity to scroll through the latest in sleek, leather jackets.

black and white with flashes of red and ragged denim -- just like every alannah myles video -- not to mention attitude! balmain spring 2011 rtw:

the bodyguard.

never having been a huge fan of whitney houston, i was still shocked to hear of her passing yesterday afternoon. as a child of the 90's, the bodyguard soundtrack was ubiquitous with my years in grade school. needless to say, listening to 'i have nothing' last night, for the first time in ten years, well... my eyes got a little damp.

it is uncanny how jason wu's 2012 fall ready-to-wear collection manages to invoke the futuristic wonderment and sophisticated sexuality of whitney's fantastic costumes from the 1992 blockbuster. having just debuted his latest line less than a week ago, it is an eerie coincidence to feel so much 'rachel marron' from some of these standout pieces, particularly those intricate chinoiserie-inspired patterns, and the long sleeved leather gloves in black with gold studding.
